Computer Services Computing Standards
Listed below are the standard systems that we recommend when purchasing a new computer. Call Computer Services about projects that have computing requirements outside of these standards
Desktop Computers:
Minimum 2GHz Processor, 2GB RAM and 40GB HDD

Smartphones:
We support Blackberry 4.x, Windows Mobile 6 Professional devices and iPhone 3.x through all of the major carriers. Email, calendar and contacts can be securely syncronized from the user's Outlook account when using one of these devices.
Palm OS devices, Android and devices that use OWA for email sync are NOT supported because they can not be secured according to HSC Security Policies. This includes such devices as Treo 680, Treo 755p, Palm Centro, T-Mobile G1, Motorola Droid and the Samsung Instinct. If you are thinking about purchasing a phone we have not listed below, check with Computer Services first to make sure its a model we will support.
Blackberry Devices

When purchasing a Blackberry device from any carrier, make sure the Enterprise data plan is activated. This is required to connect back to the department email server. The standard Blackberry Internet Service will NOT work. In addition, a BES 4.0 License is required to add the unit into our server. This license can be purchased from Sprint when buying the phone or from RIM directly for all other carriers.

When purchasing a Windows Mobile device make sure you have an unlimited data plan. No special license is required, but you need to contact Computer Services to have Windows Mobile support enabled on your account.
iPhone

The iPhone needs to have at least firmware version 2.0 installed. This version of the firmware comes on all new iPhones and is available as a free upgrade to original iPhone owners. The standard unlimited data plan is required. No special license is required, but you need to contact Computer Services to have iPhone support enabled on your account.
Palm Pre

Support for the Palm Pre is now available once the device has been updated to firmware version 1.1 or later. This update should happen to any Pre once they connect to their cellular network. The standard Pre unlimited data plan is required. No special license is required, but you need to contact Computer Services to have Pre support enabled on your account.
