Outlook 2003 Configuration (Home)

Setting up Outlook 2003 on your home computer to link to your departmental email account is simple. The steps below are used for systems which will running off the UF network. Laptops can be configured this way as well to allow them to work both on and off the UF network.

  1. Start Outlook 2003 and it should prompt you to Choose a profile. Select the default and then click Next to continue with the Account Configuration as shown in Figure A. Select Yes to configure an account then click Next to continue.

  2. The next screen asks for the server type, select Microsoft Exchange Server and then click Next to continue. (Figure B)

  3. Now you are prompted to enter the server and user name. Enter medexchange02.ad.medicine.ufl.edu for the server and your department login for the user name as shown in Figure C. DO NOT SELECT "Check Name".

  4. Click on More Settings... and you will receive the following prompts, press OK to clear the warning in Figure D then Cancel to clear the dialog in Figure E. These problems will be resolved then the configuration is complete.

  5. You should now see the Additional Settings dialog. Click on the Connection tab and check the box to "Connection to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP" then click on the button "Exchange Proxy Settings...".(Figure F)

  6. On the Exchange Proxy Settings dialog enter mail.medicine.ufl.edu for the connection URL. Check all four of the checkboxes on the dialog then enter msstd:mail.medicine.ufl.edu for the principal name of the proxy server. And finally change the authentication settings to Basic Authentication. (Figure G)

  7. After pressing OK to close the Proxy dialog, click OK to close the Connection tab and you will be prompted to restart Outlook to make these changes take effect. (Figure H)

  8. You are returned to the Exchange Server Settings dialog where you can now press the "Check Name" button. A connection dialog will be displayed where you should login with your department account. Be sure to include bkup_xchg\ infront of your login name. (Figure I)

  9. You may be prompted to select which user you are if more than one possible match is returned for the user name you entered. Click Next to continue. You MAY be prompted to login again, if so enter it like you just did with the bkup_xchg\ in front of your login name.
  10. The server name and user name should now be underlined to show it found the server and successfully connected to the user account. At this point your Outlook is configured and you can click the Finished button to start using the program. (Figure J)
