Blackberry Configuration
A Blackberry device from any carrier can be used with the departmental email system. The device should have v4.0 or later of the Blackberry OS (all current models meet this requirement). You also need to have the Enterprise Blackberry data plan on your phone. The standard or personal Blackberry plan will NOT allow you to connect to your account. In addition, a BES 4.0 License is required to add the device into our server. This license can be purchased from Sprint when buying the phone or from RIM directly for all other carriers.
Once you have your phone (with the correct phone number on it if you are porting an old number to the device) and you have purchased the BES license, contact Computer Services. The BES license will be added into our server and your account will be setup to allow you to activate your device by following the steps below.
- (Sprint Only) All new phones need to have the network provisioned.
- From the Main Menu select Options as shown in Figure A.

- Scroll down so the cursor is on the Mobile Network line and press the trackball/wheel to display the menu.
- Select Start Network Provisioning.
- Provisioning should take a couple minutes and you will be alerted when it has succesfully finished.
- Press the Red End key to return to the Main Menu.

- Next click in on the wheel/trackball and select Activate from the menu.
- Activation will take several minutes. You should see the network activity arrows flashing occasionally and eventually it will start showing the steps of what its syncing to the unit. Once it has completed a message will appear alerting you.
At this point your phone should be configured and ready to use. If you are having any problems with the wireless sync, please contact Computer Services for assistance. If you are having problems with the phone itself or your service you will need to contact your carrier.
